Good afternoon,
As we approach the final week before our half term break, I want to take a moment to reflect on the hard work and commitment that our students have shown, particularly our Year 11 students who have undertaken their first full cohort exams this week. As always, I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our students, staff, and the wider school community. Each day, I am inspired by the creativity, kindness, and resilience that fill our classrooms and corridors. We are committed to ensuring every student reaches their full potential, and we are so grateful for the support of our families in this mission.
Our enrichment activities continue to help our students continue their growth and development beyond the classroom. It’s not too late to sign up to new extracurricular activities and we encourage all students to get involved.

Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly
We are pleased to share the details of our Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly on Friday 23 May 2025.
After the English Language Paper 1 exam has finished, we will invite Year 11 students to a free of charge ‘brunch’ in our dining hall including ice-cream as requested by Year 11. During this time, we have invited all staff to come to the dining hall to facilitate ‘shirt signing’ and to say a farewell to our Year 11 cohort. There will be tables where we can lay out shirts for signing.
We strongly advise Year 11 students to bring a spare shirt as signed t-shirts cannot be worn in the exam hall due to the examination regulations. Anyone wearing a shirt with writing will be asked to change into a plain shirt for the exam.
After brunch, Year 11 students will have a short time with their tutor group and then come back to the main hall for our final assembly. We have collected photos of their time at Westfield School and asked staff for good will messages. After the assembly, Year 11 students will leave site and begin study leave.
I would politely request that you talk to your young person about our expectations for the final day. We want this to be a positive celebration of their time at Westfield School and we need to maintain a calm atmosphere for the rest of the students who are in lessons. Please stress the importance of following staff instructions, staying in the dining hall, tutor rooms and assembly so that the other students are not disturbed in their lessons.
I am so proud of the way Year 11 students have approached their exams and how they have conducted themselves throughout their time at Westfield School. Well done Y11.
Staffing Update
This week we are saying thank you and farewell to Ms Whittaker and Ms Barnes who have both moved on to other roles. I want to thank them both for their hard work and commitment to the children and young people of Westfield School. Parents/Carers of Y10 young people should contact Mrs N Lister (Pastoral manager) and Mr M Clayton as Head of Key Stage 4 and Assistant Head for Behaviour and Attitudes.
Eckington Sixth Form School Bus
We have had confirmation that the Eckington school sixth form school bus will pick up/drop off just outside Westfield School. The new bus route will pick up/drop off students at the tram/bus stop just next to the school field. The bus fare will be £1.20 each way.
This bus route will be available from September 2025. We hope that this will make it easier for students to access Eckington Sixth Form.
Good news stories
Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders
On Tuesday, six of our Year 10 students completed their Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders Level 2 qualification to be able to teach, coach and deliver sessions to young people in the community. This qualification provides opportunities for students to engage in their local communities, have access to local and national events to see how they are run and opens their eyes to the world of leisure to encourage them to be the next generation of young leaders in Sheffield and the wider area. They have shown great enthusiasm, engaging with everything they have been involved in this academic year. Some of the events that our students have been involved in are the International Championship Boxing, BUCS University Athletics Championships, BUCS University Badminton Championships, International Women’s Day Event and This Girl Can Event.
Mr Francis, Andy Staley (School Games Organiser) and Kyle Wright extend their thanks to the students for their efforts throughout the year at each event. Well done!
Year 10 Dance
The Y10 BTEC Dance group have finished a huge piece of course work worth 30% of their final grades this week. The pupils have worked so hard over the last term to complete this and they should be proud of their outcomes – well done girls!
Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh
25 of our Year 9 students completed their expedition training on Monday in preparation for their expedition in June. The students completed map reading, a two hour walk around the local area to practice independent navigation, first aid, erecting tents and camp cooking. The sun was shining, and everyone had a great day!
