School Newsletter

Published on 25/06/25

Good afternoon,

This week has been an incredibly sad and difficult time for our school community following the tragic death of one of our students. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the student's family and friends, and we continue to offer them our full support. Details of the arrangements in school for the funeral will follow separately.

In times like these, we are reminded of the strength and compassion that exists within our school. I want to thank our staff, students, and families for the care and kindness shown to one another during this time of grief. We have made counselling and pastoral support available to any students or staff who may need it. We encourage parents to contact us through enquiries if you need to share any information about the support that your child needs at this time.  We will continue to provide lesson by lesson support next week and review this each week.

While it is hard to shift focus during such a time, we also know that part of honouring a life is continuing to support one another and carry on with purpose. The rest of this newsletter contains updates on school life, including exams and upcoming events, as we navigate these next steps together.

With heartfelt thanks for your continued support.

gcse examinations - well done year 11!

Our Year 11 students have now completed their GCSE examinations, and I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to every one of them. Their dedication, perseverance, and mature approach throughout this challenging period have been truly commendable. I also want to thank our staff, parents, and carers for the unwavering support you have provided to help our students reach this important milestone.

year 10 mock exams begin

As one set of exams finishes, another begins. Our Year 10 students are currently sitting their mock exams. These exams provide a valuable opportunity for students to experience formal assessment conditions and to reflect on their progress so far. I encourage all Year 10 pupils to take these seriously, revise thoroughly, and use the feedback to identify areas for improvement ahead of Year 11.

year 10 'boss your future' event

We are holding a careers event for our Year 10 cohort on Monday 14 July between 9:30am-2:30pm called ‘Boss your future’. We are looking for any parent/carers or friends of the family who might be available to volunteer their time to talk to our students about their job and career. This would be facilitated through small group sessions. We would like students to guess your career from your description and then have an opportunity for you to share your career journey with a mini Q&A session. If you are interested and available, please contact Mrs Halliday jhalliday@chorustrust.org to discuss further.

sector safari

Sector Safari is a free and interactive careers trail around the city that lets our students, and their families explore potential future careers, all while discovering the diverse local businesses in their city.

Created by Sheffield City Council’s See It Be It team, in collaboration with 30 local businesses, it is a completely free event running from June to August 2025.

At each business or venue on the trail, there will be a poster with a QR code. Scanning this code with a phone will give more information about the company, the kind of jobs they offer and some fun facts about the area. The booklet also contains puzzles to complete as your child makes their way through the city.

The trail takes around 2 to 3 hours to complete in full. Your child doesn’t have to do the whole trail, but to solve the word code in the booklet, they will need to visit all the locations.

To find out more and where to collect your free booklets, visit this site:  Sector Safari | See it Be it
