School Newsletter
Good afternoon,
I hope you all had a wonderful summer break and enjoyed time together with family and friends. It has been a joy to welcome students back this week—the school is once again filled with energy, laughter, and a love of learning.
A very special welcome to our new families joining us this term. We are delighted to have you as part of our school community, and I know your children will soon settle into their new routines. Our focus this year is to celebrate the positive and I have spoken to everyone in assembly about being the best version of themselves. We want the best for everyone.
We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead, filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and celebrate together as a school community. Thank you, as always, for your support.
Information for parents/carers of all years
School Website
We are pleased to announce that our new website was launched during the summer holidays.
We hope you’re already enjoying our new website. If you haven’t looked already, the website is at www.westfield.chorustrust.org and provides up-to-date information, organised in a simplified structure to make it easier to find what you are looking for. If, when you first visit the site, you find that it isn’t displaying correctly, this is a common issue with new websites and clearing the cache (CTRL + F5 or CMD, SHIFT + R on a Mac) on your device should rectify the situation.
Lunchtime Arrangements
As you know, we have reverted to having one lunch break for everyone, the reasons for this are:
- To create a quieter, calmer afternoon teaching environment
- To allow for more lunchtime activities, for example, sports and clubs – this is the most important part of the change. We are looking forward to more activities at lunchtime both from our own staff and outside provision.
- To facilitate socialising across year groups
- To provide time for interventions with children if needed
The lunchbreak has been extended to 45 minutes and break has also been extended to 20 minutes. There is hot food available at break and at breakfast time. Year 7 are coming to the dining hall first to help their transition. We have asked other year groups to come to line up at 12.30 (they can also choose to wait in the queue if they choose from 12.15 but we would recommend going outside for fresh air and then returning). If the lunch serving takes a little longer, then we will make sure that children eat and then go to their lessons.
Thank you for your cooperation. We will share the extra curricular club timetable next week. If you have any ideas about outside provision, please contact enquiries@westfield.chorustrust.org – we would be delighted to hear from you.
Westfield Community Display Board – Student Contributions Needed
We hope you all had a fun, relaxing, and adventure-filled summer break! Whether you spent your days exploring new places, playing sports, trying new recipes, or just enjoying time with family and friends — we want to hear all about it!
We’re putting together a Summer of 2025 display feature in school and we’d love to include pictures of students doing something they enjoyed over the summer. Send your favourite summer photo along with a short caption of name, form, and what you're doing in the photo (together with parental consent to use this in school) to enquiries@westfield.chorustrust.org

BFI Film Academy Filmmaking Short Course
The BFI Academy Team at the Showroom Cinema are in the process of recruiting 20 young people aged 16 – 19, to take part in a training programme for young people who are interested in film. This will take place 27 October - 2 November 2025, plus 8 - 9 November postproduction dates. Please see further details below:-
The BFI Film Academy is a free training scheme for young people aged 16-19 who are not currently enrolled in University. Over the 7-day programme, masterclasses in acting, directing, screenwriting, producing, camera, editing, sound and cinematography will take place. It is an ideal course for young people who have an interest in a career in acting, scriptwriting, or filmmaking, but don’t have the resources or contacts to make it a reality.
The course will teach hands-on filmmaking and culminate with the creation of two professional-standard BFI Film Academy short films. The 20 successful applicants will make valuable industry contacts, and become part of the BFI Film Academy Alumni and access exclusive opportunities, advice and professional development. Alumni of the course have found it to be a really rewarding opportunity in terms of developing new skills and a great insight into how the film industry works. Some of them have gone on to secure work placements at Warner Brothers, BBC and Disney!
We are particularly welcoming of applications from those who are currently underrepresented in the film industry, such as women, BAMER people, those who have a disability and applicants from low-income backgrounds. This year, there is no course fee to ensure that everyone can attend. Additional financial support is available to cover other costs if necessary.
To find out more about the course, or how to apply, you can go to our website https://showroomcinema.org.uk/bfi-film-academy-short-courses or contact me directly at BFI.Academy@srws.org.uk. The deadline for applications is midday, Sunday 28 September 2025.
