School Newsletter
Good afternoon,
As we look back on another eventful week, I am pleased to share that our Year 11 mock examinations are continuing to go well. Students have demonstrated real dedication and maturity, and the calm, purposeful atmosphere around school has been noted by staff.
Following the challenging conditions brought by Storm Claudia last week, this week has introduced our first dusting of snow and a noticeable drop in temperatures. With the colder weather now upon us, I would like to emphasise the importance of students coming to school with a warm coat. We want everyone to feel comfortable and safe during break and lunchtime when accessing the outdoor areas. A reminder that lockers are available for students to store their coats and other belongings securely throughout the school day.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I hope you enjoy this week’s newsletter.
Information for Parents/Carers of all years
Equipment
As shown in the student planners, all students are expected to bring a black pen, ruler, calculator and pencil to school each day and are recommended to bring a purple pen and whiteboard pen as part of their school equipment. Next week, form tutors will be checking student equipment to make sure all students are fully equipped. If you have difficulty in sourcing any of the stationery equipment for your child, please ask them to speak to their form tutor who can supply them with a replacement. From Monday 1st December, all students should have a black pen, purple pen, pencil, ruler, whiteboard pen and calculator with them daily, for every lesson.
School Lottery
Did you know you could be supporting Westfield school with as little as £1 week, and be in with a chance of winning something, too?
Your School Lottery is a digital fundraising platform, created to offer an easy and fun alternative to the more traditional fundraising sources, many of which have never recovered since the pandemic.
It really is a fantastic way to bring parents, carers, staff and the wider community together, in partnership with our school, and at the same time give something back. We hope to raise funds that will support and enrich the education of your children: providing extra resources, improving the school environment and run extra-curricular activities such as music, art and sport.
As the festive season approaches, the November Super Draw brings an extra special sparkle: this month, one lucky person will win the Ultimate Nintendo Switch 2 gaming bundle - the perfect surprise to find underneath the tree on Christmas morning!
If you would like to take part, please visit Support Westfield School when you play Your School Lottery - Your School Lottery to sign up.

Our school cross country season continues this weekend! We’re heading to Norfolk Park for our next meet, with the usual arrival time of 9:30am and the first race starting promptly at 10:00am.
Mrs Palethorpe will be on-site to support all runners. She’ll be available to help with racing vests, guide students around the route, and answer any questions on the day. Please ensure you check in with her when you arrive.
Please also see details of two additional upcoming events:
- Castle Dyke Playing Fields – 6 December

We look forward to seeing our runners represent the school with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. Good luck to everyone taking part!

Good news stories
Year 9 Football
Our Year 9 football team faced Wales High School last week in the third round of the ESFA National Cup. They came up against a very well-organised side who moved the ball confidently across the pitch. Despite this, our students showed tremendous persistence and resilience, taking an early lead and keeping the game tightly contested. The scoreline shifted several times throughout an exciting match, but in the final 15 minutes Wales High School managed to pull ahead, eventually winning 6–3.
Well done to all the students involved—you showed great character and never let your heads drop. This experience will serve as valuable motivation as we move into the Sheffield Cup, where we are aiming for a strong run and are confident in our chances of reaching the final. Keep an eye out for updates on our Sheffield Cup journey!
Sporting Success
We are incredibly proud to share that Beau recently participated at the British Schools Orienteering Championships and delivered an exceptional performance. Competing against a very strong field of athletes, Beau demonstrated impressive skill, focus, and determination throughout the course.
Her hard work paid off as she secured an excellent 3rd place overall, with less than a minute separating the top three competitors — a testament to just how competitive the event was.
This is a remarkable achievement, and we congratulate Beau on her dedication and success and we look forward to seeing what she accomplishes next.
Sheffield Book Awards
10 of our young readers braved the torrential rain last Friday morning to attend The Sheffield Children’s Book Awards at the Lyceum Theatre.
Each year, the awards bring together the authors, illustrators and publishers of the 21 books shortlisted with their school-age fans.
The winning authors graciously accepted their awards in person or via pre-recorded video, providing inspiration and advice for the audience of young writers and artists.
The Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Andrew Sangar, spoke about the powerful impact books had had on him since childhood and how they’d led him along the path he’d taken, saying that we should "celebrate the magic they bring into our lives."
A great time was had by both staff and students and the weather didn’t dampen their enthusiasm!

Sports Hall Athletics
Sixteen of our Sports Leaders played a key role in organising, scoring, and running the annual Sports Hall Athletics Festival for our local primary schools here at Westfield. Four primary schools took part, showcasing their track and field abilities in a slightly adapted programme that challenged students to throw, jump, and run across a variety of events. The festival is always a highlight of the sporting calendar, with teams eager to secure a place in the Sheffield finals.
Our Sports Leaders were outstanding throughout the event — encouraging participants, motivating teams, and ensuring the event ran smoothly. Their professionalism and enthusiasm helped create a positive and supportive environment for all involved.
Congratulations to Mosborough Primary School, who were crowned overall winners of the 2025 festival. A special mention also goes to Brook House School, who delivered an excellent performance and secured a place in the finals after finishing just five points behind.
Well done to everyone who took part, and a huge thank you to our fantastic Sports Leaders for their dedication and hard work.
