    17.04.26

    Good afternoon,

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable Easter break, with opportunities to spend time together and recharge for the busy term ahead. It has been a pleasure to welcome our pupils back this week, and the school has quickly returned to its usual sense of energy, purpose, and enthusiasm for learning.

As always, we value the strong partnership between home and school, and we encourage you to stay connected through our weekly updates. Thank you for your ongoing support—it makes a real difference.

    Change of Leadership

After many years with Westfield School, our Deputy Headteacher, Mr Dan Griffiths has taken the decision to move on. We wish Mr Griffiths every success and thank him for the years of service to the children, young people and families of Westfield School Community. We are now recruiting for a Deputy Headteacher who will be in post for September 2026. In the meantime, I welcome interim leadership capacity from two colleagues, Mrs Rebecca Hibberd and Mrs Cherly Barquero.  Mrs Barquero will be in school Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and act as our Designated Safeguarding Lead. Mrs Hibberd will be here each week but working more flexibly.

NHS Apprenticeships at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, in partnership with Employment is for Everyone and the Department for Work and Pensions, is holding an information session on their 2026 NHS apprenticeships.

This session will showcase three exciting pathways: entry-level apprenticeships in Customer Service and Dental Nursing, along with Level 2 and 3 apprenticeships in Pharmacy. The session will take place on May 7th from 2pm to 4pm. Please aim to arrive by 1:45pm so we can start promptly at 2pm.

Attendees will hear from NHS professionals, discover entry-level and advanced roles, and gain insights on how to apply and what employers are looking for.

To manage expectations before attending: all apprenticeships require qualifications in Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English. This ensures apprentices can successfully complete their training and access relevant roles afterwards. Flexibilities are available for those with an EHCP, allowing a reduced requirement of Entry Level 3 instead of Level 1 or 2.

Spaces are limited, so for details and booking, please email jcpsheffield.nhsrecruitment@dwp.gov.uk

    Good News Stories

Year 10 maths students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Higher Level Maths Achievement Programme at Sheffield University this week. The day provided a valuable glimpse into advanced mathematical thinking, allowing students to explore new concepts and challenge themselves beyond the classroom.

Throughout the programme, students engaged enthusiastically in a range of activities designed to stretch their problem-solving skills and deepen their understanding of mathematics. Their willingness to participate, ask questions, and tackle complex ideas was evident from start to finish.

We are incredibly proud of how they represented the school. Their behaviour was exemplary throughout the day, and they demonstrated maturity, curiosity, and a genuine passion for learning. Staff at the programme commented positively on their engagement and attitude.

Well done to all students involved—you were a real credit to the school and made the most of a fantastic opportunity.
