    01.05.26

    Good afternoon,

Welcome to this week’s school newsletter.

It was wonderful to see so many Year 7 parents and carers at our Parents’ Evening this week. Your engagement and support make a real difference, and we appreciate the time you took to meet with staff and discuss your child’s progress.

Our Year 11 students continue to show great focus and determination as they work through their final exams. We are proud of their commitment and resilience during this important period, and we wish them every success as they continue.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of the school community.

    Punctuality Matters

Every day there are children and young people who arrive at school after 9am without a valid reason (for example, having a medical appointment would be a valid reason).

There is a statutory requirement for our register to close at 9am every day for the morning session. If your child is not present at 9am, they will lose a session’s attendance.  For example, if your child arrived at 9.05am once every week, this would mean that, over the year, your child’s attendance will drop to 90% and you will fall into the Government’s definition of Persistent Absence. This is without taking any other time off school due to illness or appointments.

Being late can mean that your child is beginning the day feeling out of step with others, not seeing friends, missing important messages and work in Personal Development Time and needing support to access their day.

If you would like to discuss your child’s attendance or punctuality with our team, then please contact attendance@westfield.chorustrust.org

Youth of Sheffield Day Saturday 9 May 10-11:45 am
World Seniors Snooker (WSS) is pleased to announce the return of Youth of Sheffield Day.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, Ken Doherty, Stephen Hendry and a whole host of other snooker legends have been engaging with multiple local youth groups to champion the young people of the steel city.

The Youth of Sheffield Day will, once again, see Tudor Square full of groups celebrating the city’s youth activities. There will be a real vibe in the square as young people are invited to come and soak up the snooker atmosphere, listen to some local bands and musicians and more.

    Snooker Sector Safari

The See It Be It team is inviting families and young people to take part in a special Snooker Sector Safari – a free, bite‑sized careers trail in the heart of the city.

Set around Winter Gardens and Tudor Square, the short, easy‑to‑complete trail offers a fun and accessible way to explore the wide range of careers involved in delivering a world‑class snooker event. From sport and events to media, design and behind‑the‑scenes roles, the Snooker Sector Safari shines a light on the jobs people might not expect.

It is designed to spark curiosity, inspire career ideas and show how major sporting events can connect to real jobs and future opportunities – all in a short, family‑friendly city‑centre experience.

Free to take part and open to all. Trail booklets can be collected from Central Library and Zooby’s Coffee Shop in the Winter Gardens.

    Good news stories

Last Friday, a group of our dedicated Sports Leaders hosted the annual TAG Rugby Festival at Westfield. The event brought together three schools, all competing enthusiastically for the title of 2026 TAG Rugby Champions.

Our Sports Leaders played a key role throughout the day, taking on responsibilities such as refereeing matches, keeping score, organising activities, and coaching the participants. They ensured that all students understood the rules, felt confident to take part, and enjoyed the experience.

The festival was filled with energy and positivity, with smiles all around and every try celebrated with great excitement—truly reflecting the spirit of our community.

Congratulations to Mosborough Primary School, who were crowned overall winners of the tournament.
