    15.05.26

    Good afternoon,

As we move further into the summer term, our Year 11 students continue to sit their final GCSE examinations. I have been incredibly impressed by the maturity, determination and resilience they have shown throughout this demanding period, and we wish them every success as they continue with their exams over the coming weeks.

At the same time, excitement is building as we make the final preparations for next week’s joint languages and football trip to Dortmund. This promises to be a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a new culture, practise their language skills and enjoy memorable sporting experiences. We are very much looking forward to seeing our students represent the school with pride and enthusiasm.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Impact of Sharing Videos/Photos on Social Media

We spend time each week supporting children and young people because an image/video has been shared without their permission.  This is damaging for all the people involved and could have more widespread impact. For example, as you may know, AI can be used to change images or ‘cut and paste’ faces onto other images.  We know from police and other authorities that some people are then using images of children to do wrong.  Please speak to your children and young people about the dangers of sharing or forwarding any images. As a school, we report the sharing of any indecent image/video to the police who may then investigate.

A reminder that mobile phones must not be seen or used in school.  The Government has announced plans to ensure that schools are mobile phone free; this becomes statutory on 29th June 2026.  As a school, we are reviewing our current mobile phone policy to ensure that it fulfils the requirements of this legislation.

    Year 11 exams

We are proud of how Year 11 have conducted themselves in the exams so far. The morning revision sessions will continue to run from 8:15am, with all students expected to be in the relevant classroom by 8:30am. Until the end of Thursday 21st May, students are expected to stay in school after each exam, to attend the rest of their timetabled lessons. We would appreciate your support in reinforcing this message with your child.

Details of the arrangements for results day will be shared once the exam season is completed.

Year 10 families will have received communication earlier this week about the Year 10 mock exam period. We are currently working through the exam access arrangements for this year group and will aim to contact families after half term with clarification of arrangements. Any queries that have been raised so far will be replied to after half term.

Parents of Year 10 – Work Experience

Work Experience commences on Monday 18th – 22nd May, all students have logged their placements on UNIFROG, they have had an assembly with some guidance on how to ensure they are prepared for Monday and we are excited for them to experience the world of work.

They are bringing home a booklet to complete on their placement; they should take this with them each day and keep it safe to return to school after half term. All students will receive a check in phone call within the first few days, and the careers team will conduct a small number of in person visits.

If for any reason your child is unable to attend their work placement, please telephone school to report the absence as well as informing the employer.

If your child does not have a work placement, they should attend school as normal, report to PDT in room 209 with Miss Beaumont where they will receive their timetable for the week.

We are looking forward to hearing about their experiences when they return. Any questions please contact: careers@westfield.chorustrust.org

    Good news stories

On Wednesday, six of our SAYLS Leaders successfully completed their Level 2 Sports Leadership qualification at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield.

Throughout the course, they completed coursework based on the many outstanding events they have supported through the SAYLS Programme, as well as the festivals they have been involved in through the Points Learning Network and Sports Leaders at Westfield School. These events included the BUCS Badminton Championships, BUCS Athletics Championships, European Figure Skating Championships, Sheffield Half Marathon, Winter Swimming Championships, and the Multi Sports Event.

We would like to thank each student for the dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work they have shown throughout both the Sports Leadership Programme at Westfield and the SAYLS Programme. You have represented the school brilliantly, and we are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved this year.

A final thank you goes to Kyle Wright for organising and delivering the course so successfully.
