    10.07.26

    Good afternoon,

As we move towards the final week of the summer term, I would like to thank our pupils, staff and families for their continued support during what has been another exceptionally warm week. We have made adjustments to encourage regular hydration, closing blinds, providing fans and adjusting uniform. We appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation as we have responded to the hot weather.

This afternoon, our school community will come together on the school field to remember our much-loved pupil, Elemie Wainwright, on what would have been her birthday. It has been truly heartwarming to see so many children choosing to wear pink in her memory. We know that Elemie remains in the thoughts of many, and this special moment will give us the opportunity to celebrate her life, reflect on the joy she brought to our school and remember her together.

Next week marks the final week of the summer term, and there is much to look forward to. With a range of activities planned both in school and beyond the classroom it promises to be a wonderful way to celebrate another successful year.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support, and I hope you enjoy reading this week's newsletter.

    Celebrating Isla's Figure Skating Success

We are delighted to celebrate the fantastic achievements of Isla, whose dedication and hard work in figure skating continue to bring impressive results.

Isla has recently passed her Level 6 Skills and Level 4 Programme in British Ice Skating. With just two more skills levels remaining, she is well on her way to completing the entire British Ice Skating Skills pathway.

Her latest success means that Isla has qualified to compete at Basic Novice level in the British Championship Qualifiers this August and October. She will be aiming to achieve the qualifying score needed to secure a place at the British Championships in December.

Behind these achievements is an incredible level of commitment. Isla trains six days a week, arriving at the ice rink for 6:00 a.m. on most mornings before school, before returning after school for a further two hours of on-ice training, alongside off-ice conditioning. Her determination, perseverance and outstanding work ethic are clearly paying off.

We are incredibly proud of Isla's achievements and wish her every success as she prepares for the British Championship Qualifiers. Good luck, Isla!

    City Athletics Finals

We were incredibly proud to take eight students to the City Athletics Finals after they achieved the fantastic accomplishment of qualifying through the previous rounds. They represented the school in events including the 100m, 200m, 600m, shot put and vortex throw. Every student demonstrated outstanding determination, resilience and sportsmanship whilst competing against some of the best school athletes from across Sheffield.

A special congratulations to Evie, Esme and Georgia on their fantastic performances at the City Athletics Finals on Tuesday afternoon.

Evie demonstrated great determination competing in the 600m, earning an impressive 3rd place finish. In the shot-put event, Esme secured 2nd place with an impressive 7.00m put, while Georgia claimed 3rd place with an excellent put of 6.69m. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, commitment and sporting success- well done to all three students, and congratulations to all eight students who represented the school so brilliantly!

    Year 8 NVGM Trip

On Friday, a group of 52 year 8 students attended a computing trip to the national videogame museum in Sheffield. The trip was a great success, with lots of fun had by students and some very cool animations created by them in the workshop. The staff at the NVGM commented on how brilliantly behaved and engaged the students were so a big thank you to all of them from the computing department. Below are some of the creations that the students made.

    Halfway Infants Sports Day

14 of our Sports Leaders went across to Halfway Infants school to run their annual Sports Day in the glorious sunshine. Our Leaders were extremely professional, helpful and encouraged everyone to try their best in front of the student’s parents. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces, high fives and encouragement throughout the morning of activity. The Leaders were all enthusiastic and didn’t stop all morning. They are a true credit to their families, and we thank each and everyone of them for their hard work and commitment.

    Beighton Infants Sports Day

Last week, 30 of our Sports Leaders headed down to Beighton Infants school to run and score their annual sports day on Brook House field. Along with Andy Staley, students and Mr Francis were able to put on a fantastic event full of activity for over 150 students. Smiles, laughter, engagement and a morning full of activity saw students run, jump and throw to earn as many points as they could for their classes. They also had the pleasure of a mum/dad race, as well as a Sports Leader race which was wonderful to see. Thank you to all the leaders involved, Andy for his help on the day and Beighton Infants, especially Miss Darlow for a fantastic opportunity.

    Sheffield Get Active Awards

On Thursday evening 15 of our Sports Leaders in Y9 were invited to the annual Sheffield Get Active Awards at the English Institute of Sport. They were nominated for the Secondary Sports Leader award for all their hard work over the year. Our students were unaware of the fact that they had won this award, and to their surprise they were well deserved winners of this prestigious award. All 15 of these students were inducted into the Points Learning Network Academy earlier in the year and have been part of our programme since the end of Year 7. These students have had an amazing impact on our students lives at Westfield, their community and ensuring that young people have a desire to move/take part in physical activity. They are deserving winners of this award and we as a PE Department, School and community are very proud of what they have achieved. Thank you to Andy Staley of Points Learning Network, Kyle Wright of Forge SSP, Kim Horton of Links SSP and Lauren Donnelly of Arches SSP for the award, as well as everything they do for school sport in Sheffield and the wider community.
