Good afternoon,

It has been another busy week at Westfield, with lots happening across the school. Our Year 7 and Year 10 students have had their school photographs taken, and we were delighted to welcome around 600 visitors to our Year 6 Open Evening. The event was fully booked, and it was wonderful to see so many families visiting the school and finding out more about life at Westfield.

This weekend, our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students will be setting off on their expedition. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to put their preparation and teamwork into practice, and we wish them all the very best for a successful and enjoyable expedition.

Today, while students have a day away from school, our staff are busy taking part in additional training and development to further develop our Inclusion strategy.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to another busy and successful week at Westfield, and we hope our students have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Routines and Expectations

Thank you to everyone who has supported our start to the term especially around jewellery and mobile phone usage.

As a school, we are responsible for the health and safety of all our children. For this reason, we have asked all students to wear retainers for facial piercings and to wear stud earrings. We have also made reasonable adjustments for a small number of young people. We thank you for your support for this renewed focus on health and safety.

Westfield School is a phone free school which means that phones are not seen or heard during the school day. Where children need further support, please contact our pastoral teams to discuss how we can help. For example, some children are handing in their phones every day and collecting them at the end of the day. Thank you for your continued support.

Attendance continues to be a top priority for our school community, again thank you to everyone for your support to make sure that all our children are ready to learn and sitting in their classroom by 8.30 every morning. If a child is late to school after 9am, you will lose a full morning of attendance – this is a statutory requirement not a school rule. We look forward to celebrating the many children who have excellent attendance.

Art Club

Art club will resume on Thursday 24th September and all 50 available places have now been filled.

Form tutors will be issued a register of all students who have signed up, so that they can remind students that have registered.

For safeguarding and safety reasons, we can only allow students who have registered to attend the club. We will monitor attendance over the next few weeks and will let students know when additional places become available.

European Day of Languages 2026

On 26 September, we will be celebrating European Day of Languages, an annual event that recognises and promotes the rich diversity of languages spoken across Europe and within our own school community. Throughout the week, students and staff will have the opportunity to take part in a range of exciting activities, including a languages treasure hunt, a languages-themed student and staff Bake Off, and a cake sale. We are delighted that money raised from the cake sale will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. We look forward to celebrating the many languages and cultures that make our school such a vibrant and inclusive community.

From Westfield to the Boots Advert!

We are delighted to celebrate the fantastic success of Bea, one of our former Year 11 students, who has recently appeared in the new Boots advertising campaign, “Give It Some Boots”!

Bea auditioned for the commercial alongside her mum, Amanda, who will be familiar to many at Westfield as one of our school invigilators. Both were successful in securing parts and had an incredible time filming the advert together.

The pair had a fantastic experience on set, dancing the day away and thoroughly enjoying every moment of this exciting opportunity. It is wonderful to see a former Westfield student taking on such an exciting experience, and even more special that Bea was able to share it with her mum.

Well done, Bea and Amanda – we are so proud of you both!

Y8/9 Girls National Football Cup

On Wednesday evening, our Y8/9 Girls’ football team travelled to Kirk Balk to compete in the first round of the National Cup.

In glorious weather and with plenty of enthusiasm, the girls took to the pitch ready to give it their all. They faced a strong opposition, including several academy players, but our team showed fantastic determination and resilience throughout the match.

Every player held their own, working hard for the team, pushing themselves and giving their best right up until the final whistle. Despite their efforts, the girls were unfortunately knocked out of the National Cup following a closely fought game.

Miss Fletcher would like to say a huge thank you to every girl who represented Westfield, with a special mention to those who stepped up to support the team when needed. Their commitment, teamwork and positive attitude were fantastic to see.

Y11 Boys Clegg Shield

On Wednesday evening, our Y11 Boys’ football team took to the pitch for the first time this academic year as they faced Firth Park in the first round of the Clegg Shield.

The Clegg Shield is the oldest school football competition in the world, and Westfield School has a proud history in the competition, having won it four times.

The boys approached the match with a professional attitude, showing great resilience, determination and teamwork from the very first whistle. They put in an outstanding performance and came away with a fantastic 13–0 victory!

Every player contributed to the result, playing with excellent team spirit and supporting one another throughout the match. The boys showed that they can perform under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude and displaying great sportsmanship. They were gracious in victory and continued to work hard for each other right through to the final whistle.

Mr Francis would like to thank all the players for their fantastic efforts, as well as Mr Berry for refereeing the match and Firth Park for a competitive game played in great spirits. Firth Park’s teacher also commented on how professionally and respectfully our students conducted themselves throughout the match.

The team now look forward to the next round of the Clegg Shield, as well as their league fixture against All Saints next week. We wish them the very best of luck!
