Good afternoon,

It has been another busy week at Westfield, with plenty to celebrate. Our Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award students successfully completed their expedition this weekend, and thankfully the weather was kind to them, making for a much more enjoyable experience in the outdoors. Well done to all our young people for their determination, teamwork and resilience throughout the expedition. I am looking forward to hearing about their ongoing commitment to the Dule of Edinburgh award as they complete all the activities to gain the full award.

This week we also had an unplanned emergency evacuation of the school. I would like to thank our students for the calm, sensible and well-organised way in which they responded to the situation. Their behaviour was excellent, and they followed the instructions of staff quickly and responsibly, helping to ensure that the evacuation was completed safely and efficiently.

Update – September Attendance Challenge

Thank you for your continued support in ensuring your child attends school every day, arrives on time and is punctual to lessons. We are already beginning to see a real impact on learning as a result of this.

The academic year has started well, with attendance figures higher than at the same point in the previous two years. However, we are not quite yet in line with national figures. We have taken a slight dip this week due to illness, but we are confident that, with your continued support, attendance will recover next week.

Students are responding well to our ‘September Attendance Challenge’ and are showing real excitement about the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes. We still have 949 students with 100% attendance, meaning they are all still in with a chance of winning some of our big prizes next week!

We are also monitoring our top-performing tutor groups, who have the chance to win a free breakfast next week.

We continue to strive to maintain strong attendance and encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or need any support regarding your child’s attendance and progress at Westfield School.

A Reminder About Aerosols in School

A reminder that aerosols should not be used in school, particularly in the PE changing rooms. The use of an aerosol can be harmful to those with respiratory issues like Asthma. Similarly, our fire detection sensors are also sensitive to the vapour from aerosols.

Flu Vaccines

The School Age Immunisation Team will be visiting school on the 7^th October to give the Seasonal Flu Vaccine to children. A single dose of the flu nasal spray will mean your child is less likely to become ill if they come into contact with the flu virus.

Consent is required to give your child the vaccine. When filling in the consent form, you will have 3 options:

Nasal spray- This is the most effective way to protect your child from flu. (Please note: it contains pork gelatine.)
Injectable flu vaccine - This version does not contain pork gelatine.
