Good afternoon,
Despite our start to the summer term being two short weeks, there has still been lots happening in school. There’s much to look forward to, and I’m delighted to update you on some of the key highlights from around the school.
Our extra-curricular program has been updated and published on the school website. We have a variety of after-school clubs and activities, from sports teams to music and drama groups. If your child has not yet signed up, it’s not too late to get involved. Clubs are a fantastic way for students to explore new interests, develop skills, and make lasting friendships.
Lastly, I want to take a moment to thank our staff, students, and families for their ongoing hard work, commitment, and enthusiasm. It’s your collective effort that makes our school such a vibrant and supportive place for learning.
As always, should you have any questions or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Information for parents of all years
Safety Awareness
Please see the message below shared by one of our parents:-
Yesterday was the worst day of my life! I don’t give Jake too much freedom as it’s a big bad world out there, and those that know me, know I’m super over-protective, but I give him enough freedom to learn and grow.
Then the unthinkable happened, Jake’s friend called me shouting for me to “come quickly! Jake’s done a big jump, he’s banged his head and he’s not talking, he won’t wake up!!” To hear his mates shouting his name and not getting a response was like listening to my world ending, I swear my heart stopped! 999 was called twice, once by his mate and once more by me when I got there. At this point Jake had come round and was in such a state of pain, shock, panic and unaware as to what had happened, bleeding from his nose and mouth, with scrapes and bruises all over his body. What felt like a lifetime was around 10-15 minutes and then the ambulance arrived, they knew exactly where we were thanks to the App WHAT THREE WORDS. Everything then just became a blur for me.
Jake had all the relevant tests and had to go for a CT scan as soon as we arrived at hospital. Other than being battered and bruised, mixed with confusion from the concussion he’s doing fine and with plenty of love and rest, he’ll be back to himself in no time!
The doctor told us that Jake wearing his helmet literally saved his life. Please, no matter how much your child protests, make them wear a helmet at all times when on any bike, scooter etc. I’m so lucky that Jake does!

Extra-curricular Activities in PE
This week saw the start of the brand-new summer term extracurricular activities in the PE department. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to experience new sports, try new skills and develop interpersonal skills by meeting new friends. There has been a great uptake of students already, but there is always room for more students to come and take part in the list of activities below:
- Monday – Cricket (All years and genders)
- Tuesday – Badminton (All years and genders)
- Wednesday – Rounders (All years and genders) & Athletics (All years and genders) Fitness Club (All years and genders)
- Thursday – Duke of Edinburgh (Applicant students) & Sports Leaders (Invite only)
Each sport (Monday-Wednesday) has several competitions linked to them to give your child the opportunity to represent the school across the city. However, these clubs are also there for engagement and exercise without the added pressure of representing the school if your child doesn’t wish to. Come along and take part in physical activity!!!
Good news stories
Last week we took over 200 Year 10 and Year 11 students to see a production of An Inspector Calls at the Lyceum theatre. We know how beneficial this production will have been for our students’ GCSE literature exam and for their wider experiences.
It was such a joy to see the students engage so positively with the performance and to represent themselves and the school so highly.
We received several messages of feedback from the general public, both in person and by email, to inform us of how impressed they were with our students’ attitude and clear enjoyment during the show. Below are some examples!
We thought you would like to know how very impressed we were with the behaviour of your students. They were attentive, courteous and engaged in the play. Credit must also go to the staff in the way they respectfully managed the group. The whole party was a credit to your school.
Just to say how impressed we were, without exception, with your pupils’ demeanour and behaviour. It was a pleasure to share the performance with them. Your accompanying supervising staff were a credit to the school. A great example of introducing youth to live theatre. Very well done.
Thank you to all parents who supported this and a big thank you to our students for conducting themselves in this manner.
