School Newsletter
23.01.26
Good afternoon,
As we come to the end of another busy and productive period in school, I would like to thank you for your continued support and engagement with our school community.
This week, the school was inspected by Ofsted, there was a team of five inspectors. There is a new Ofsted inspection process in place from November 2025, and we are among the first schools to be inspected in this new process. The following video explains the changes New Ofsted report cards and grades: a guide for parents
I would like to thank our staff and children for the calm, professionalism and positivity they demonstrated throughout the process. Inspectors spent time in lessons, speaking with leaders, children and staff, and gaining a broader understanding of daily life at our school. In a short assembly this week, I have thanked the children for their good behaviour overall and will do the same as I meet them going around school.
Thank you to all parents or carers who responded to the Ofsted survey online. We now await the published outcome of the inspection, until then it is confidential.
It was also a pleasure to welcome so many parents and carers into school for our Year 9 Parents’ Evening. This event plays an important role in supporting students as they consider their option choices for study in Years 10 and 11, and it was encouraging to see such positive and purposeful conversations focused on helping students make informed decisions about the next stage of their education.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to sharing further updates with you in due course and to continuing our work together to secure the very best outcomes for all our students.

Good news stories
Capa College Visit
On Tuesday, over 60 pupils from Years 8–11 took part in an exciting Musical Theatre dance workshop led by Capa College. Pupils had the opportunity to work alongside second-year college students and teachers with professional theatre experience, learning dynamic choreography, lyrics, and vocal harmonies.
The day concluded with an outstanding performance of excerpts from Capa College’s We Will Rock You, followed by a Q&A session with our pupils. This event marks the beginning of what promises to be a highly exciting partnership between Westfield School and Capa College. Our students’ behaviour was exemplary throughout the day, and they proudly showcased the exceptional talent within our school.
Family of Schools Gymnastics Event
Last Thursday, 14 of our Sports Leaders successfully planned, organised and delivered the annual Key Steps Gymnastics event for Key Stage 2 pupils at Westfield.
Schools from across our Family of Schools joined us for the event, with each showcasing their talented pupils as they performed a gymnastics floor routine in front of a panel of judges made up of our Sports Leaders.
Every participant was given the opportunity to practise the routine beforehand, receiving guidance, support and encouragement from the Sports Leaders before performing their routine twice for the judges.
Parents, carers, teachers and helpers were encouraged to attend, helping to create a fantastic atmosphere as they cheered on all those taking part. The event ran smoothly from start to finish, and every student involved performed brilliantly, demonstrating confidence, determination and excellent sportsmanship throughout.
Sports Leaders Excel at the European Figure Skating Championships
On Friday 16 January, six of our Sports Leaders, who had been inducted into the Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders (SAYLS) the previous month, were given their first opportunity to represent both Westfield and the SAYLS team at the European Figure Skating Championships, held at the Utilita Arena Sheffield.
Throughout the day, our Sports Leaders took on a range of responsibilities, including selling event merchandise and meeting influential figures from both the city and national sporting community. These included the Minister for Sport, the Sheffield Ambassador for Sport, and two GB Figure Skating athletes who went on to compete in the championships that weekend.
This valuable experience allowed our students to volunteer at a major international sporting event, helping them to understand the importance of effective leadership, communication and organisation in the wider world of sport. It also provided an exciting opportunity for the leaders to ask insightful questions and learn directly from individuals who play a key role in promoting and supporting sport at all levels.
We hope the six Sports Leaders thoroughly enjoyed their day at this prestigious event, gaining a greater insight into event management and developing key skills that will be transferable and beneficial throughout their lives.
